SICOT, the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie, is an international non-profit
association incorporated under Belgian law. SICOT’s mission is to promote the advancement of the science and art of
orthopaedics and traumatology at an international level, in particular for the improvement of patient care, and to
foster and develop teaching, research and education.
The foundations of the Society were laid during its first Congress in Paris at the Hotel Crillon on October 10, 1929
which makes it one of the oldest international societies around the world. This meeting was attended by some of the
legends in Orthopaedics including Erlacher, Spitzy, Lorthioir, Delchef, Maffei, San Ricart, Albee, Baer, Meyerding,
Ombrédanne, Rocher, Sorrel, Nové-Josserand, Fairbank, Bielsalski; Galeazzi, Putti, Murk Jansen, Frans Jiano,
Haglund, Waldenström, Machard and Zahradníček.
As the Society marches toward its Centenary year, it has taken on the mantra of transformation but also to maintain
and strengthen all the activities on its portfolio with continued governance and responsible fiscal management under
the leadership of the current President, Prof. Vikas Khanduja.
